Synergy – Computer Experiments Volume One (CD, Reissue) A pioneering exploration of algorithmic composition, Computer Experiments Volume One showcases Larry Fast’s Synergy project at its most experimental. Originally released in 1981 and reissued in 2003, the album features three extended soundscapes generated by a microcomputer program called “Pink Tunes,” written by John Simonton of PAiA Electronics. This program applied stochastic processes — controlled randomness — to musical parameters, allowing the computer to “compose” within predefined boundaries. The result is a hypnotic blend of ambient textures, synthetic harmonies, and unpredictable rhythmic structures. These recordings were digitally transferred from the original studio mixes, offering a raw and uncompressed glimpse into early generative electronic music.
