This coin was issued to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, which took place on June 2, 1953. It was the first commemorative coin issued during her reign and was not intended for general circulation. The reverse features the four quarters of the Royal Arms within shields, with the emblems of the home nations (rose, thistle, shamrock, and leek) in between, and a crown in the center. The inscription around the edge, "FAITH AND TRUTH I WILL BEAR UNTO YOU," is from Prince Philip's pledge of allegiance to The Queen during the coronation.
