This is a late Victorian or Georgian hinge lidded coin or trinket purse circa 1815-1895. Made from Faux tortoishell or horn,or possibly early celluloid. Decorated with an inlaid silver crest often referred to as Pique Work. Dimensions 7 x 4.5 x 2 centimetres weight 30 gram. Popular in the early to late 19th century and often given as gifts for antiqes collectors. Hinged lid is intact and funtional in a dark brown and glossy finish. Fastens with a side button that clicks closed firmly holding it shut. The cover is slightly distorted by 1 millimeter due to age and use but solid and functional.
