Listed is a Record Calvert Stevens CS88 smoothing plane that I have scraped to perfectly flat on my grade A granite surface plate. When I got the plane I was quite surprised to see that it wasn't very flat, it just goes to show that In the 40 years since this plane had been ground flat the cast iron can move and warp a fair amount. A scraped surface is an ideal surface for a plane as the slight irregularities mean that there is a lower surface area in contact with the wood leading to less sticking.
