Frank Bowling Bartica Small Print For this work, Frank Bowling used a photograph of his mother taken by the photographer Tina Tranter. In 1969, Bowling and Tranter travelled to New Amsterdam together, and images from that trip appear in several of Bowling’s works from this period. Creating a stencil from the image, Bowling used screenprinting techniques along with acrylics to incorporate the image into this painting, the title referencing his birthplace.
