From the groceries and cafés of 19th century France, these magnificent cast iron coffee mills were made by Peugeot Frères, a metal manufacturing company which later went on to make cars. Made from cast iron with a wooden drawer to collect the ground coffee and a wooden handle on the crank. The domed metal lid swivels open to let in the beans. Still working, with the grinding cogs turning smoothly. The body would originally have been painted green, and some of this remains. One side of the wooden drawer has a large patch red ink. Peugeot still makes grinders and mills today, but as a separate company from the automobile manufacturers. Measurements are 41cm overall height and a maximum width of 40cm. The widest part of the base is 24.5cm. The weight is 7.6kg
