Offered here is an antique French Regence' pattern chess set of Library size and folding Board , believed to be crafted in France around 1920s and exported globally. The set features the pieces turned and hand-carved from boxwood and ebonized hardwood. The kings boast a lotus-shaped crown with a bulb top and double turned rings, while the queens have a traditional bulb top finial. The bishops follow the traditional Regence' style with Large bulb tops, and the oversized knights are hand-carve featuring short mouths with pierced eyes, unlike most of their counterparts. The rooks are represented by ribbed towers, and all pieces have short stems and bulging bases for enhanced stability. The pawns are distinguished by their large collars and bases. The woodwork is finished with a nice Shiny finish, giving the boxwood a caramel to toffee patina.
