If a disk loads but makes worrying noises, I fully clean the disk surface, re-test it, and repeat until it loads smoothly. The disk surface has also been visually inspected for any issues. I also listen for any unusual loading noises, as this can indicate dust, dirt, or even signs of mould that might not be visible.
