The sculpture is similar to a Victorian-era cast iron doorstop depicting the Charles Dickens character Fagin. Other similar sculptures have been identified as a Giuseppe Armani piece called "Old Man Smoking Pipe". Some versions of this type of figurine are also identified as "Frith sculptures" which are made from a mixture of bronze powder and resin.
