An improved DVD Recorder, ILO DVDR05 MU1
Bewertet am: Mrz 28, 2006
Fazit: I picked 4 stars for durability because I had to pick something but I can't really comment on that until after a few years.
I made sure to find a model marked MU1 after reading reviews online. This recorder is replacing a GoVideo Recorder that only lasted 1 year and 4 months before it failed. I can say from experience that this recorder has a lot of improvements from recorders available a year ago.
I use 1 hour or 2 hour mode for family video recordings transferred from my video camera, the DVD recordings turn out great. For recording movies or TV shows that are originally high quality I use 4 hour mode and it records nearly identical to the original DVD it came from, so I can fit 2 movies on a disc easily. For movies or TV shows where the quality is not originally that great to start with I have tried both 4 hour and 6 hour and the difference is not visible, so I use 6 hour mode for these which is actually 6 hours and 6 minutes. Sometimes I even use 8 hour mode for unimportant stuff which is actually 8 hours and 8 minutes.
I have used Ritek Ridata DVD plus RW & DVD plus R discs with no problems, I have even used cheap GreatAzo DVD plus R that record good. The Ridata discs work on any DVD player, the cheap GreatAzo discs play good on this recorder and also on Cyberhome DVD player, but are not compatible to many others like Apex DVD players. I'll stick with the better discs from now on, I bought the cheap ones a year ago and they never worked on my old recorder at all, the Ilo seems compatible to a wide source of discs.
The Ilo Recorder can erase either one title or a part of title or the entire disc, which is nice since my old machine could only erase the whole disc but not pick and choose which title. When you delete a title that is on the bottom of the list, you get that space back on a DVD plus RW to record something else, but on a DVD plus R you do not get the space back but you can still delete the title.
The Ilo Recorder also works flawlessly as a player which my old recorder only recorded good but as a player was not very good at all due to skipping and freezing. Of course to be able to make a legal fair use copy of a movie you will need a legal device from "Sima" that I found online for $69.00. It gets connected between the source and the recorder. It makes you wonder why they sell you a recorder that you can't use to record a movie without this in the first place?
The remote control is small and cheap looking and uses a watch type battery, this is the only real thing I can complain about. Another feature that has seen improvement is the JPEG picture slide feature which you can record music and pictures on a CD using your computer and when you put the CD in the Ilo Recorder, it will play the music together with the pictures. This is a great feature which I have not found elsewhere yet, although it is not perfect either. The music only plays for about a half hour regardless if you select repeat folder, and then for the rest of the pictures they are shown without music. So this needs a bit more improvement, maybe my next machine in the future will do this probably.
The Ilo Recorder comes with a lot of connections front and back that should accomodate anything that you could expect to need like S-Video, Video 1 & 2, DV input for camera in front, progressive scan, etc. The machine itself is very small, just a little larger than the smallest DVD player and it is also very light. My last recorder was huge and heavy. I would say for the price this machine is well worth it and I do not see any good competition for it currently.
