Loved the product, the 30 days it worked
Bewertet am: Okt 13, 2007
Fazit: It seems extremely hit or miss to me, since the product bugs clearly are not resolved. So good luck if you're a gambler.
I did a lot of research (2-3 months) last spring before I found the dvdr I wanted. An HDD big enough and a DVD recorder to burn stuff. So I spent $300 and got the Phillips, a decent brand.
The first month it worked beautifully. Everything was golden. All features worked perfectly. Then exactly a month after I bought it, the timer went haywire. The clock was off about 6 hours. No matter if I re-set it manually, re-booted, etc. So, there went the timer aspect of the recording to the HDD, which was kinda the point.
Customer service was ok at first. But when I wanted to return the unit, they made me ship it at my cost. Then it took over a month (not 15 business days as promised) to get the second unit. It was worse than the first, because now the playback froze every few minutes and the timer worked randomly, taping some things and not others. I called them back and wanted a refund, which they told me was NOT part of my warranty. Their solution was to exchange AGAIN for a third unit. At least the second time I made them pay for the shipping.
I checked my warranty and in fact, a refund IS part of the warranty. It has been less than 90 days, and it stopped working properly after 30. Again, $300 to me is a fair amount of money. So needless to say I am very unhappy.
I tried to get Walmart to just exchange it for a different brand, cause God knows I won't ever buy Phillips again. But they rightly made the point that since I had already exchanged the original unit I bought from them, they could not take the second one from the company back. So no luck there.
So if you happen to get a unit that works longer than 30 days, be happy. My experience with Phillips has been mainly one of frustration and misinformation. And I feel that being lied to is not ok, just to get out of giving a refund that is deserved for not just the first faulty product, but a second one.
Buyer Beware!
