Point and Shoot Upgrade With Problems
Bewertet am: Aug 23, 2008
Fazit: Interesting Camera, but I'm already Looking for a better one.
I checked out this camera in order due to the high optical zoom. Most point and shoot cameras have only 3X optical Zoom. So, I was interested to see what this camera offered.
The first thing I noticed was the lens cap leash. So, I was happy to see I wasn't likely to lose the lens cap. However, it soon became obvious that the lens cap wouldn't stay on the camera! So, with this in mind, it's essential to store this camera in a camera bag, so it doesn't fall off end up with a scratched lens. This feature may have been on purpose, because it's impossible to take a picture with the lens cap in place.
I hate the strap. I couldn't get it installed according to the directions, the end started fraying, and I tried to cut off the end, and it frayed even more. I tried to glue it with nail polish, but still couldn't get it through the cheap plastic piece. I tried to insert some plyers to pull the end of the strap through, and it snapped. So, I secure the end with Duct Tape. Probably not the first person to resort to Duct Tape.
Since I already have an Olympus Stylus 800, with a lot of the same features, it was easy for me to get up to speed with this model.
One of the enhancements was the framework which divided the screen into nine blocks, three across and three down. Since it's a good idea to follow the rule of thirds (don't put subject in exact center) with photography, this will come in handy. Also the horizontal lines will make it easier to line up the horizon with sunset pictures.
The panorama only allows stitching of three photos while my Olympus Stylus did 10. And it only stitches into a long horizontal photo. But the advantage is that it shows you a thin strip of the previous photo, making it much easier to line up. After the third shot, it stitches them together and displays the finished result!
After taking two train rides, I'm returning the camera. A lot of the photos came back blurry, and I found it took too long for the camera to reset between photos. The burst mode (4 pictures) were usually blurry. Also, there were only a few camera settings that would allow the exposure compensation feature. With the old Olympus, it would allow exposure compensation in the landscape mode.
It also had an on camera photo touch-up, as well as a photo crop (which I didn't try). The 12X Optical Zoom worked like a charm, however I kept losing the subject, but I think that's just something we have to get used to with Superzoom cameras. Maybe you need to depend on a tripod. I tried to take some deer around sunset, and had to boost the ISO to about 600, and the color went wonky. Also, had to brace the camera in order to get a sharp picture. A definite surprise with image stabilization.
The on-off toggle worked sometimes, and not others. Also, I'm on my third CR-V3 battery after about 300 pictures.

I think every digital camera should come with a battery charger and an A/C Adapter (both are optional).
On the good side, you can pick up the batteries anywhere.
