wi fi printing so simple

Fazit: HP is very economical on the printer cartridge use
I had to get a new printer right away, the old one suddenly died, and i wanted an integrated printer scanner copier fax on a network, to replace my ancient giant bubblejet. Many things have changed since I last went into the store to actually look around and buy a printer. Many of the printer scanner copiers had built in Wifi so it can be used by all computers in the network. The Wifi chip became cheap enough to make it into printers. I wonder when digital cameras will be equipped with Wifi chips for instant prints on any network.
After some research, I went with an HP C7280. A really impressive machine with lots of functions and features. Most ink jet based all in ones feature either photo related or office specific features, one or the other. The HP C7280 All In One is great in both areas. It gives high quality photo prints, is easy to use, and has an automatic document feeder, standalone fax, network connection and best of all, is Wi-Fi capable.
Setup was straight forward and very easy. Simple input of the Wifi security key and it was automatically part of the network. Some configuration in the Wifi access point was needed to ensure it always gets the same IP address every time, and it was quickly for anywhere printing. The PictBridge USB port supports USB sticks for direct printing. It also has bluetooth to print directly from a cellphone. I used it with Bluetooth I use with my PC and it used the Bluetooth without any extra configuration. Once the phone sends the picture over Bluetooth, the printing starts automatically. Printing from a PC via the Wifi network works just as quickly as over an ethernet conection, but i found out that it has a very long startup time of over a minute before a page is printed. After the first one, the rest are printed without any delay.
I am very impressed with the printerand the quality of print, I am, once again, VERY disappointed with the PC software of HP. When will they EVER get it together???? I installed it on two computers and both, after rebooting, had the evil task running in the background which ate up 100% of the processing power. The HP software was never ever light on CPU resources, and it seems like it is getting worse instead of better. While the printer is online and not used, tasks in the background keep loading and killing the CPU power. I had to kill the tasks running in the background and only turning them on when I want to print something.
Besides the bully HP software, the printer integrates very nice on my network due to the built in Wifi chip. No more memory sticks or dragging the notebook to print out when i am not close to the printer.
This opens up the door for the future, which will integrate many appliances over a home wifi network. Soon i can turn on the coffee pot from my bedroom computer and open the garage door to let the kids in, right from my notebook. If only someone can figure out how to wifi the blender for instant margaritas!!!!
