Burnout Revenge
This new addition to the Burnout series from EA games really shines as a racing sports action game. Ride the limit and you will be rewarded, revenge is everything in this game. As with previous versions of burnout the aim of the game is to crash and burn everything you see!! With a few twists and turn here and there!
Graphics: Smooth and some of the backdrops are breathtaking. Cars are beautifully sculpted and detail is very good. Navigation through menus is easy and well co-ordinated.
When you car crashes you can actually see the damage caused. If you are involved in multiple crashes you will see that your car degrades through various degrees of damage.
Plot: There is no real plot. There is just the world tour you have to complete. You will also be invited to special events situated in different locations.
Ratings: You start out at level 1 and you have to get a certain number of stars to move up to the next level where new tracks, cars and locations are opened up. You will be rated from ok to awesome in each mode depending on position finished, how may takedowns you have performed. As well as how dangerously you have driven and how many times you have crashed. Perfect laps are a big plus.
Another way to increase your rating is the revenge rival. If an opponent car take you down then they will become your revenge rival. If you take them down this increases your rating.
RACE MODES:
Race: A per the name above you race laps round a track against 5 opponent cars until you cross the finish line
Gold for first, silver for 2nd and Bronze for 3rd.
To increase your rating you have to drive aggressively and takedown opponents, get big air during a race, drive into traffic (only traffic driving the same direction as yourself)!!
Tips: Use your boost at the right time!
Traffic Attack: This is new mode to burnout, basically the aim is to slam into traffic and get as many points as you can. You start with 20 seconds and this counts down very quickly. The more traffic you slam into and the more points you score, this in turn keeps increasing you time. To get a gold medal you will need to learn how to perform skill shots. A Skill shot is when you slam traffic (same direction) into oncoming traffic.
TIPS: watch out for lorries and tracks, know the track because if you are a part of the track where there is no traffic .need I say more.
Crash: My favourite mode of burnout, the mode if basically like a set piece in football. You start at a designated spot either on a road, hill highway etc. When the mode begins it will show you what lies ahead. For example the road layout if there are any jumps and builds up of traffic.
In essence you have to crash into as many cars as possible and cause them to crash into more. Easy to see what needs to be done but much harder to pull it off, especially to get gold. Where possible always try and get the target car as this adds a big reward to you score.
When you get enough crashed cars involved you get a crashbreaker. This enables you to explode your car causing more damage and more points.
Tips: As you progress during the game different cars will become available, using the right car for the right crash is sometimes key.
Burning Lap: Probably one of the hardest modes in burnout revenge. The aim is to drive a single lap at the highest speed round the track and beat the set time for the track. Finding shortcuts is essential because sometimes even with a perfect lap you still only get silver.
Tips: Don t crash!
Road rage: Takedown central. Pure carnage is what this should be called. You one pure thought is to crash as many rivals as possible. Gold, silver and bronze are set a certain number of takedowns. You have set time to complete these takedowns but you time is extended at a certain number of takedowns.
Tips: Try not to crash, because if you do eventually your car will become totalled and you may not have got enough takedowns for gold
Eliminator: The same a race mode except every 30 seconds the car in last place is eliminated.
Avoid being in last place and all should go well.
Tips: Takedown opponents and boost are essential as this will help you stay ahead of the rest.
Preview Lap: Single lap race with a super fast car. Cars that you have the opportunity to unlock later on in the game.
Tips: Flatout. Don t hit anything!!
Grand Prix Race: This mode is spread over 3 races. 1st gets you 6 points, 2nd gets you 4 points etc. To get gold you have to be the driver with the most points at the end of the 3 races.
Tips: getting 2 firsts is usually enough.
Crashbreaker mode: This mode is available in all modes except burning lap and crash. This is a new addition to burnout revenge. The ability to explode your car to take out any opponents behind you. Watch out though if you do not take out anyone then your entire boost will disappear.
Tips: Use your rear-view to check opponents are close enough to use crashbreaker
Extras:
Signature takedowns: These are specific takedowns done on specific areas of the track. Basically a photo album of some awesome takedown crashes.
Challenge Sheets: Complete set challenges on different locations to unlock cars. Example takedown a specific number of cars during a race.
Aftertouch: this great feature is the ability to move you car in to other opponents whilst you are crashing. Or in crash mode you can manoeuvre your car into the exact place you want it to hit the cars
Other points:
I have been playing the game a while now and am up to level 9. I have not found the game that difficult at all. Certain locations on certain modes took more than 3 attempts to get past.
But overall the gameplay is not that tough.
I think this game has staying power as always want to open up the next location or unlock the next car. Plus to gain certain extras you have to have completed all gold in certain modes
DAMAGE TO YOUR WALLET: #19.99 or you can pick it up on eBay for around #9-14 including postage!
SUM UP: this is a brilliantly addictive game & it is not too difficult but which will keep you coming back for more and more
