An Outstanding Camera
Bewertet am: Jul 26, 2008
Fazit: This camera can be expensive, but it takes unbelievably detailed photos. I would recommend it to anyone who has the money to spend on a camera.
This is the best camera that I have ever owned. The pictures on it are spectacular. Even a novice can take postcard quality photos and believe me I am novice. This camera can auto focus and point and shoot with the best of them. It also does not have the delay between shots even in low light that some of the less expensive cameras I have owned. I am still intending to get more acquainted to the abundance of options on this camera, but even with the many options it is still extremely user friendly.
If you have the money to spend on a camera and the lenses then I could not recommend a better one. It is a little bulky, but it is quite comfortable holding. It also can be a little slow focusing in low light settings. My biggest fear with this camera is dropping or losing it.
Ok, here are the specs on this thing.
It is a 10.1 Megapixel
This makes for excellent quality photos, but large file sizes. The smallest are usually around 4 meg. Not a big deal with any photo software that can shrink these down, but it's something to be aware of if your planning on email a lot of these photos. Just so you know these will all save on a CF (Compact Flash)card. There is no internal memory or option to use SD or any other type of memory device.
Save formats are JPEG or RAW.
It is made of a Magnesium Alloy
It seems well made and very sturdy, but I'm still terrified of dropping the thing.
It's dimensions are 5.7"w X 2.9"d X 4.3"h
weight: 1.5lbs
It is somewhat large but it fits well in the hands and is comfortable to use.
Maximum Shutter speed is 1/8000th of a second. It will shoot up to 6.5 photos per second.
It is fast, especially on the sports setting. Even in low light it is fast.
Minimum shutter speed is 30 seconds
I've never needed this slow a shutter speed, but good to know.
It has an integrated cleaning system that self cleans.
A nice feature , never had any problems.
It has a CMOS optical sensor, with 10,100,000 total pixels.
Ummm. This is Greek to me, but hopefully some of you more knowledgeable with these things can use this info.
Here are the display options:
Exposure compensation, Program, Battery condition, Aperture, Drive mode, Film speed, Flash mode, Focus area, Frame counter, Metering mode, Photo quality, Shutter speed, Autofocus mode, Self-timer mode, Photos remaining, Manual focus mode, Red-eye reduction, White balance indicators
A whole list of options, most I understand the rest I'm going to as soon as I get myself a little more educated.
There is a pop up AF Illuminator Flash +/- compensation
A good flash and this camera takes good photos even in poor light. As with most SLR's a larger flash can be added to this camera.
Li-ion rechargeable battery - 1390 mAh
There is an external battery charger for this camera. The battery itself lasts awhile and does not seem to drain much when not in use. I can easily take hundreds of photos before needing a charge.
The Lens:
17-85mm Lens
Maximum view angle of 78.5 degrees
Lens construction is 12 groups and 17 elements.
Internal focusing system, UD glass, Aspherical lens, Ultrasonic Motor (USM)
It has a Manual or Auto Focus switch on the lens.
This is mostly more Greek to me. It's a great lens. The picture quality is unbelievable. If you're looking for extreme closeups or objects far away, you'll probably need a different lens. Just make sure you stay with the IS lenses.
This camera does have a couple of drawbacks. The price is not what a novice usually would spend on a camera. There is also a night and day difference with the Image Stabilizing (IS) lenses than the regular ones. For one, the IS lenses are a good bit more expensive, which when added to the already high cost of the camera, makes for an expensive camera for the amateur. Although, after owning both types of lenses I wouldn't own anything other than the IS lens, just because of the difference in picture quality. Some other brands of SLR have the image stabilizing feature built into the camera and the lenses aren't quite as pricey.
The only other real issue was in low light this camera can take a couple seconds to focus. It will take the picture itself quickly in low light, it is just focusing that seems to take some time.
I am sure there are better cameras out there if you are willing to pay more money, but I have had quite a few less expensive digital cameras and none of them compare to the picture quality or the performance of the Canon EOS.
